Receives and processes items for inclusion in the college’s physical library collections and serves as a member of the library’s public services team by connecting students to library resources and digital literacy assistance.
*SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:* * Prepares library materials for circulation and withdrawals items as needed.
This includes finding and editing catalog records using shared bibliographic utilities, creating item records in the College’s library management system, determining appropriate preservation measures, and assigning call numbers and barcodes to items, among other technical services tasks.
* Serves as a member of the library’s public service team, which includes regularly scheduled shifts on the circulation desk assisting student and community members with technology tasks and accessing library resources in person, by phone, and over email.
* Assists in the management of library supplies and collections by receiving packages working with faculty librarians to manage branch library collection inventories.
* Trains and assists in the supervision of student workers in basic technical services functions, including basic materials repair, shelving items, shifting collections, and shelf reading.
* Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
*QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:* * Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in any subject or any combination of education, experience, or training relevant to the position, which provides the necessary skills, abilities, and knowledge; * Proven knowledge of library operations, especially technical services utilities and library management systems, preferably Ex Libris’s Alma; * Exemplary customer service skills; * Time management and organizational skills; * Interpersonal skills; * Communication skills – both verbal and written; * Accurate and detail-oriented work performance; * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; * Self-motivation; * Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications to include word processing; * Ability to work as a functioning member of a team.
*PHYSICAL DEMANDS:* This position requires excellent hearing and speaking skills, vision sufficient to see and interpret all job-related materials, an ability to sit, stand for long periods of time, ability to climb steps and low ladders, ability to be mobile between work stations and library areas, good manual dexterity, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of thirty (25) pounds.
It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
*Travelling and working at other IRSC campuses and locations, as scheduled;* *Working weekend and evening hours, as scheduled.
