The qualifications and skill requirements position include:
* Master’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture and Design; or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in one or any combination of the following areas: Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Architecture.
* Minimum of five (5) years of proven work experience as contractor; * Experience with appropriate trades, i.
e.
plumbing, HVAC/R, electrical, carpentry, etc.
* Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written; * Excellent computer skills including strong foundation in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and industry specific programs; * Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to multi-task; * Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process; * Ability to work independently as well as with student, faculty, staff and co-workers and be self-motivated; * Valid Florida Driver’s License; * All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements.
* The following is preferred: * Valid General Contractor license and other trades * Minimum five (5) years supervision/training * Experience with building construction educational programs *ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: * Knowledge and skills of the fundamental set up and operations of CNC lathes and milling machines; * Ability to effectively teach apprentices in various trades; * Effective classroom performance, including accurate completion of student files, records, and grades for IRSC and appropriate certification agencies; * Assuming day or night teaching on/off campus; * Meeting classes on time and being properly prepared; * Program and curriculum development; * Serving the community; * Serving effectively on college committees.
*SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: * Assist with continuous improvement of Building Construction programs, including relevant industry-recognized credentials; * Retrieve, print, and provide current approved modules and training materials; * Responsible to his/her Dean for effective classroom performance, including accurate completion and timely submission of grades; * Prepare and provide all lecture, laboratory and clinical instruction according to the required curriculum; * Follow current course outlines, objectives, and evaluation mechanisms for the program; * Increase use of educational technology instruction; * Maintain a lesson plan of daily instructional events; * Monitor student attendance and retention and document as required by the administration; * Grade assignments, returning graded assignments to students, and assigning final grades for all students in a timely manner; * Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled times (i.
e.
, office hours) or by appointment; * Advise students as it relates to school policies, satisfactory performance, etc.
; * In partnership with Program Coordinator and Dean, assist with development of student recruitment activities; * Participate in college and division recruitment activities as needed; * Employ strategies as directed by the college to effectively increasing student retention as well as student recruitment; * Submit in writing current textbook, supply, and equipment needs to the textbook manager; * Comply, monitor, and maintain all safety procedures and best practices as required in industry; * Monitor and maintain all equipment and supplies needed for instruction in classroom and lab(s); * Establish and maintain inventory of materials, tools and equipment assigned to the program; * Maintain professional appearance at all times; * Communicate with Program Coordinator & Dean on all issues related to students; * Provide recommendations for annual budget(s); * Maintain professional expertise (faculty development) to meet accreditation standards by attending educational seminars in professional field, reading current literature, attending online courses, etc.
; * Perform all duties required to maintain a viable program; * Reinforces writing skills throughout the curriculum by assigning written work (i.
e.
, papers, essays, examinations, etc.
) whenever possible and appropriate; * Responsible to Dean for the continued development of his/her own scholarship; * Maintain a comprehensive plan for his/her own self-evaluation and improvement of instruction; * Responsible for service to the College and to the community; * Perform duties as assigned on College-wide or statewide educational committees; * Meet classes on time and to be properly prepared, notify the Dean when ill or unable to meet such classes, and fill out such state and College forms as required to cover the absence(s); * During the contract period is responsible to the College for 40 hours per week to include office hours, committee work, student advisement, and classroom teaching activities, etc.
; * Assume night course teaching as well as off-campus site teaching as a regular part of teaching load; * Submit complete course outlines and revisions to the Curriculum Support Office; * Follow through with agreed upon directed independent study (DIS) assignments; * Maintain professional conduct and behavior in the classroom and, at all times, when he/she is professionally involved with students; * As a responsible member of the Indian River State College faculty, demonstrate a professional attitude at all times as well as always maintaining a high ethical and moral behavior; * Display an appropriate and sound attitude toward students, colleagues, supervisors, and the College community at large; * Responsible to complete instructional duties as assigned by the Vice President, Dean, and Department Chair, and to pursue the improvement of the instructional program; * Understanding of and commitment to Equal Access/Equal Opportunity.
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * The physical requirements for this position include: * Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; * Ability to safely lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training; * Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating applications; * Demonstration of appropriate skills as required by curriculum and standards; * Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach with hands and arms, and stoop; * Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot all lab equipment in the lab; * Ability to bend down and get on knees while performing different techniques; * Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations; * Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; * Excellent Hand-Eye coordination skills required to demonstrate appropriate skills required of the program; * Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions; * Physically demonstrate new and unique methods and materials; * IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
